Amaterasu

Hello everyone!  Welcome to the Little Things!  =^-^=
A blog that takes a look at the little taste treats that Japan has to offer, in an ongoing quest to enjoy the little things in life!

Summer has arrived in Japan, and that means hot...and humid!  Luckily, Japan has many ways to beat the summer heat \(^o^)/  So what better place to start than with the a name as old as Japan itself... Amaterasu Fruit Parlor.  But could this little shop live up to it's name?  Amaterasu is the goddess of the sun that is said to have created Japan out of the primordial sea, and is the direct ancestor of the emperors.

This little shop is sandwiched between several imposing stores, and from the outside doesn't look like much, barely enough room for two to stand in front of the counter, but the staff was helpful and friendly.  Taking the recommendation of the staff, we decided to try the "Chocolate and rich milk shaved ice.  Milk flavored snow cone???  (@o@)  Well, here went nothing...

After one bite, there could be no question.... I was coming back to this store!  The ice had been shaved just perfectly so that it was soft and velvety, and the coldness of the ice matched with the flavor of the milk to create perfection!  Two thumbs up!  I highly recommend this store to any who are looking for a little relief from the brutal summer heat.  The staff also let us know that there are any number of combinations that they can create from the fruits and flavors available, including milkshakes, crapes, juice mixes, and shaved ices.

All too soon, it was finished!  Back into the heat of the afternoon, but our little rest had re-energized me!  If you're looking to try this little treat, it can be found between Lotz and the Hondori in Okayama City, one block off the main street!  Enjoy!
